Design Hotel

For those that already have 1000-thread count sheets and the utmost luxury at home, sometimes a hotel doesn't need to be as much of a getaway as an experience. Hotel Amour cannot compete with the luxury of le Meurice nor the refinement of the Particular Montmartre, but what it does offer is the coolest collection of Paris locals and fashionable visitor in an artist-minded hotel bohemia unrivaled in Paris and its ever-hip 9th. If you know Paris - think the Hotel Costes' less pricey, rougher-around-the-edges but slightly sexier French hotel sibling co-owned by the owner of Le Baron Andre Saraiva.

Housed within a fairly unremarkable building with marble frontage and double topiary marking the entrance, the lobby offers a walk-though layout defined by a spiral staircase that ascends the spine of the building and rickety elevator that requires a great deal of patience. A spot-on brasserie with rear garden is home to dinnertime home of Paris's top artists and fashionistas who use it as a conversational refuge. At night the action morphs inside to a deco-inspired martini lounge with late supper seating with front carriage area usually stalked by the roving French paparazzi.

The Room

Think heroin chic with a dose of edgy Art Basel, Hotel Amour follows the hotel pedigree of ubiquitous celebrity crash pads like the Chateau Marmont that come with just enough luxury to keep posh celebs from checking out at 2am. It should be noted that a lively lobby and busy street mean that lower-level guest rooms are very loud. Large picture windows and hardwood or natural stone floors with bold colored walls of red, blue and green define one-of-a-kind rooms. Artsy elements abound with the owners recruiting some of their friends to design wall murals, graffiti installations and artwork even in entry-level rooms. Upgraded superior and bi-level duplex room come with innovative bathroom- all of which come with their own Kiehl’s bath products are exposed to the rest of the room ideal for impromptu photo shoots with Terry Richardson or the in-house student photographer.
